Flash video

Fri Sep 07, 2012 8:37 pm

I know that the Pi cannot view Youtube videos in a web browser as is has "a lack of Flash or HTML5 support".
I use Whitey (yt) to view them from the command line and was looking for an explanation of how it achieves this.
I'd possibly have a guess that .flv is only a container and that Whitey ignores the container and somehow manages to play the codec inside it?
I did Google but got bogged down so does anyone have a simple explanation for me?

You answered your own question. FLV is just a container format. It usually contains H263 or H264 encoded video and MP3 or AAC encoded audio.
