Correct HDMI-VGA Cable / Adatpter / Connector ?

Sat Nov 12, 2016 10:22 am

I am a new user of Raspberry pi 2 Model B V1.1, I have prepared an sdacrd with NOOBS 2.0.0 by following http://qdosmsq.dunbar-it.co.uk/blog/201 ... pberry-pi/ i.e. formatting, partitioning, downloading, unzipping noobs zip file into new partition.

I have VGA monitor and I am trying to get first display after putting sdcard in slot after which i connected board via two cables

vga cables - >
https://www.snapdeal.com/product/hi-lit ... 12101217:s

hdmi-vga - >
http://www.amazon.in/CLASSYTEK-HDMI-Con ... 599359d620

But It is giving not connected, No signal. Hence No display I am getting. Can anybody help me with the correct combination of cable or single cable to get display for same ? As in market there are many hdmi-vga adapters or cables available, but right and applicable I am not able to identify. Can anybody help me to identify the correct HDMI-VGA adapter/connector/cable so that I can get a display ?

Thanks.

Step one: Check your monitor to see if there is either a DVI or HDMI connector. If so, get either an HDMI cable or an HDMI to DVI-D cable and use that. Not all monitors have both VGA and HDMI or DVI-D, but many of them do.

The "unpowered" HDMI to VGA adapters work...sometimes. Many of the ones like you are looking at don't handle all display modes (geometry and refresh rate) so it may or may not work with your monitor. The better converters have their own power supply but are more expensive. It is usually cheaper to find a monitor with DVI-D or HDMI input than it is to get a decent HDMI to VGA converter. Ask friends and family, check second hand shops, if all else fails, look on line for manufacturer reconditioned monitors. You'll save a lot of hassles (one less unit to fail or debug) and may save money.

Hi,

Thanks for the response.I do have VGA port at monitor and HDMI at Raspberry Pi 2 board. Its my humble request to provide me a web link of image or reference for that cable. I researched in market, found multiple adapters with variable price range. I want to accelerate the work, so just let me know the exact cable/adapter/connector/combination yo use...

Thanks

Every monitor I've looked for the last few decades has had a VGA connector. Since the advent of flat panel monitors, many--but not all--also have a DVI or--occasionally--an HDMI connector. HDMI is becoming more common. There are people expecting the demise of VGA, but it hasn't happened yet.

What make and model of monitor are you using?

I have monitors going back a few decades. All of the ones under ten years old have DVI as well as VGA. The most recent ones have (at least one) HDMI and DVI. Some of those have VGA as well but that never gets used.

One of the target audiences for the Pi is people who will be using a TV as a monitor. It's difficult to buy a new TV without at least one HDMI (an sometimes 5 or more) input. Very few have VGA or DVI.

I had a similar issue with matching the output to a monitor. I went to Goodwill, and for $15.00 found about 20 monitors to choose from which all had HDMI, DVI and VGA. I was up and running in about 5 minutes.
