simple motion detector project

Need to make something with motion activated lasers or tightly focused LED. Would also like it to trigger a speaker with an mp3.

Later like to add motion tracking and possibly a camera.

Also reproduce it cheaply.

Not sure whether to go with Pi or Arduino or Particle...or what.

Use a Pi3 for the first version then you can use a cheaper Model A+ to replicate what you've done multiple times.

Pi's have a dedicated camera interface and can be set to detect motion.
Playing music based on an external event is child's play.

How about motion tracking?

If you need camera, you should choose Pi (not arduino or particle).

For motion tracking you can check following page:

Hi,
the tutorial (http://www.pyimagesearch.com/2015/05/25 ... nd-opencv/) using OpenCV will fail because of 2 things:
- you will have a hard time to opencv installed on the PI. all tutorials and install scripts fail in one way or another. again, too much outdated things.
- the second problem: even if you managed to get the motion tracker installed, the OpenCV motion detect script in Python is ok but you need lots of light to make it work good.

As alternative you can:

1. buy a standard infrared indoor/outdoor motion detector (for houses, 10euro)
2. as soon, its reacting, it turns on power, you can now plug all sorts of things: an old radio, a light,...

fast done. no need to waste a RPI for this. if you still want RPI setup anyway, i also have some ready to use stuff regarding this: https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/ass ... 9f5c6a.png. But it requires you to use some software of mine and get OpenCV properly installed.
