Raspbian Jessie static ip address / network name

Sun Jun 19, 2016 6:30 pm

Hi.

I have defined my static ip following this tutorial: https://nebulousthinking.wordpress.com/ ... e-in-2016/. Everything seems to work. When I do a nmap scan on my network, the Pi shows with the name computer.home in the ip that I have defined. Can anyone explain to me why the name has changed from the original one I had before setting a static ip?

Thank you.

I guess you were seeing "raspberrypi.home" as the computer name, this information was coming from the router's DNS service (the Pi gives its name when asking the router for an IP address)
"computer.home" sounds to me like a default name assigned by your scanning application now that the Pi doesn't inform the router anymore.
