Help Learning How To Begin

Wed May 18, 2016 7:00 pm

I've always been fascinated with technology and have decided that I want to pursue this with the RPi3 I just bought. I have v-basic and html programming knowledge (not much) but would like to know what some of you recommend. I am guessing Python might be the best place to start?

My goals:
-A/V Recording and security system, incorporating my existing DSC system with RPi3
-Automation: Lighting/curtains/HVAC/etc.
-Photo frames, light shows, etc.
-Vehicle integration

I want to do it all... and I have the ambition to do it. If anyone has been in my position and has found success, please let me know your experiences. I greatly appreciate it:)

Software is only part of the story. All the goals you list require interfacing additional hardware components to a RPi. Many of them are not plug and play USB peripherals. What do you know about that side of things?

The MagPi magazine is a great resource for all things Pi. Download the PDF versions for free.
