RPi3 Raspbian and Gstreamer1.0

Sun May 15, 2016 2:06 pm

I have a new RPi3 and I just downloaded the latest image of Raspbian216-05-10. I need the latest Gstreamer installed with OMX support so here are my questions:

1. Other forums say that Gstreamer1.0 is already installed in the new image but I don't see it there.

2. What version of the Gstreamer and Gstreamer-tools are available? Ver 1.2.X is available but one forum suggests that a version called 1.3.0 is actually faster. Meanwhile, 1.8 has been released but I don't know if it is available for the Pi yet.

3. When I try to install Gstreamer (sudo apt-get install gstreamer1.0) is get all kinds of repository errors "failed to fetch My question is why would the repositories be broken for an image release this month?

4. When I run update and pi-update, the resulting image won't even boot.

What am I missing here guys?

Once I found a good article on with instructions and a script to compile GStreamer 1.2 on a Raspberry Pi. The website is gone but you still can find the article at ... spberry-pi

There is no package named gstreamer1.0.
gstreamer1.0 consists of a lot of different packages. At least some of them are installed by default.Current version is 1.4. Gstreamer-omx is a separate module (version 1.0, already installed).
First thing you should do is install synaptic. Start it from a terminal with
gksudo synaptic.
Now search for gstreamer. You will get a list of all gstreamer (0.10 and 1.0) packages and it will show you, which are already installed. Now install what seems to be missing for your project.
Note: gstreamer1.0 output to the screen is currently broken. ( )
