external SD in a USB card reader: which path?

Fri May 13, 2016 3:57 pm

hi,
I had just copied my internal SD to an external SD card in a USB card reader by the new SD copy feature:
which is the path to it?
I can't find it to check the contents! :evil:
#define S sqrt(t+2*i*i)<2
#define F(a,b) for(a=0;a<b;++a)
float x,y,r,i,s,j,t,n;int main(){F(y,64){F(x,99){r=i=t=0;s=x/33-2;j=y/32-1;F(n,50&S){t=r*r-i*i;i=2*r*i+j;r=t+s;}if(S){PointOut(x,y);}}}for(;;);}

Can you remember what you selected for "Copy to device"?

Code: Select all

ls <copy to device>*
should give you a list of device and partitions.

Code: Select all

mount
will tell you whether they're mounted and where.

If they're not mounted, they can be mounted one at a time by

Code: Select all

sudo mount <copy to device><n> /mnt
e.g.

Code: Select all

sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
Don't forget to

Code: Select all

sudo umount /mnt
between mounts and before removing the SD card.

If you can't remember what you selected try

Code: Select all

ls /dev/sd*
and make your best guess from its output.
Attempts to contact me outside of these forums will be ignored unless signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public enquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters

there was just 1 option:
/dev/sda
#define S sqrt(t+2*i*i)<2
#define F(a,b) for(a=0;a<b;++a)
float x,y,r,i,s,j,t,n;int main(){F(y,64){F(x,99){r=i=t=0;s=x/33-2;j=y/32-1;F(n,50&S){t=r*r-i*i;i=2*r*i+j;r=t+s;}if(S){PointOut(x,y);}}}for(;;);}

the file /dev/sda exists, but no sda1 sda2 sda5 sda6 sda7...
#define S sqrt(t+2*i*i)<2
#define F(a,b) for(a=0;a<b;++a)
float x,y,r,i,s,j,t,n;int main(){F(y,64){F(x,99){r=i=t=0;s=x/33-2;j=y/32-1;F(n,50&S){t=r*r-i*i;i=2*r*i+j;r=t+s;}if(S){PointOut(x,y);}}}for(;;);}

sudo fdisk -l /dev/sda

shows

Disk /dev/sda: 29,7 GiB, 31914983424 bytes, 62333952 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

With file manager, under X, does it show under /media ?

IIRC, it's "below" /media/pi (two entries, one for "boot" and another, with a hex UID string for the remainder of the filesystem)
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

/media/pi is empty
#define S sqrt(t+2*i*i)<2
#define F(a,b) for(a=0;a<b;++a)
float x,y,r,i,s,j,t,n;int main(){F(y,64){F(x,99){r=i=t=0;s=x/33-2;j=y/32-1;F(n,50&S){t=r*r-i*i;i=2*r*i+j;r=t+s;}if(S){PointOut(x,y);}}}for(;;);}

now I have done that procedure the 2nd time and I now can see a folder
/media/pi/...(no subdirectories???).../2F0-BD44,
/3225-7E2C
/6330625andamillionmorechars
/Datenträger31GB

where can I see now the contents of my copied SD?

hell, is that weird!
#define S sqrt(t+2*i*i)<2
#define F(a,b) for(a=0;a<b;++a)
float x,y,r,i,s,j,t,n;int main(){F(y,64){F(x,99){r=i=t=0;s=x/33-2;j=y/32-1;F(n,50&S){t=r*r-i*i;i=2*r*i+j;r=t+s;}if(S){PointOut(x,y);}}}for(;;);}

aaah -
beyond /dev there are now
sda,
sda1,
sda2,
(no sda3, no sda4),
sda5,
sda6,
sda7

so what does that mean?
#define S sqrt(t+2*i*i)<2
#define F(a,b) for(a=0;a<b;++a)
float x,y,r,i,s,j,t,n;int main(){F(y,64){F(x,99){r=i=t=0;s=x/33-2;j=y/32-1;F(n,50&S){t=r*r-i*i;i=2*r*i+j;r=t+s;}if(S){PointOut(x,y);}}}for(;;);}

update:
thanks to a detailed assistance by procount I now have got some introduction and overview about the disk, partition, and path architectures.
I now can mount a copied drive and even check single folders of the original and the copied SD card , e.g. by diff.

That is now really a lot for the start. Now I will try to test the copied SD on a 2nd Pi board during the weekend.

Thanks to all, and especially to procount, for your help!
#define S sqrt(t+2*i*i)<2
#define F(a,b) for(a=0;a<b;++a)
