Why?

... get an Internet connection and install it from the repositories. Why make this hard on yourself?

Well, and the main point is that there is not much point to VNC in the first place without a network connection. (there are uses, but)

We have network (connected by lan) but I am working in the place that our IT block the internet to all Rasberry PI for some reason. Have no issue using Putty and WinSCP....The reason I want tightvnc to be installed because from time to time i am updating the presentation into our Pi display...It is very time consuming to use pendrive to transfer and run the presentation, i want to access the Pi display using my windows PC and run the presentation...hope i made mymessage clear....help please...thanks.

Uffdah!

IAN connections are the best most secure connections... I wonder why the PIs are blocked?

Where are you located, working?

Do yourself a huge favor and either talk to your IT people to get access or take the RPi somewhere that has Internet access.
Note if you want to access and control the local session on the RPi then use x11vnc instead of tightvnc.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Please share procedure to install "x11vnc". I am very reluctant to ask help with IT, they move very slow :-(
I want to resolve faster....thanks.

Get a second RPi with internet access, build everything you need on it's SDCard, clone that to another SDCard and use that on the disconnected machine.

What is the advantage of x11vnc over tightvnc?

Maybe have a look at PiKitchen recipe 008 VNC which installs vnc without internet.

When using tightvnc, XRDP, SSH, they all open new and independent session(s). Several users could log into the same RPi and each would not know about the other.

x11vnc allows the user to see and use the local desktop session. The screen where the actual keyboard/mouse/monitor is attached will be mirrored to the remote connection.
There may be ways to get the others to work like that but x11vnc just works.
Google how to install.

You have to have access to the Internet anyway to get the packages.
It may be possible but you could spend days trying to get all the dependencies sorted and downloaded.
You could DL the whole repository and create a local repository inside your LAN. I'm not sure how feasible that is but others in your situation have done it.

If you want to install things from deb files, you are going to have to do all the dependency management yourself. This can be very difficult no matter what the kind folks over at slackware claim, witness trying to compile omxplayer on tiny core linux.....

Sometimes, you can get a deb file where the author has included or otherwise explained what to do to get it to install. But often these deb files come from the archive used by apt-get et al. and you are being expected to use apt-get et al. and not directly install with dpkg -i .

So I'd say to look into using apt-get for this. You can get it to print out the urls for the needed downloads like this:

sudo apt-get install --print-uris whateverPackageName

There are various programs that attempt to do what you want including, I haven't tried this one, apt-offline and others. It surprises me that no one else around here has this issue since all it takes is a pi stuck up in a tree doing datalogging and you come by every once in a while and wifi into it to download the data and presumably upload updates but there's no internet available.

@200yrs.
Not sure why you are having so much trouble.

I just installed the latest Raspbian from 2016-05-10.
I copied tightvncserver_1.3.9-6.4_armhf.deb and xfonts-base_1.0.3_all.deb to my pi in ~/deb
then did:

Code: Select all
