Following Drone

I am planning on building a drone. I will likely buy an ARF kit, like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/X525-V3-Quadcop ... SwDk5T9~yT, and would like to know the feasibility of using the Raspberry pi to simulate commands from a controller to the flight controller. I would like to use a set of two ultrasonic range finders, with the output unused on one, and the input unused on the other to guide the drone, with the input from the ultrasonic sensor on the drone, and the output on a loop being held by me. The ultimate goal is simply to build a drone that will follow me. I can program (though I admit I have never tried anything quite like this), but my hardware skills are somewhere close to 0. Any help or input would be appreciated.
