Read only SD, LXDE

Ok, googled and googled.
Anyone successfully gotten simple LXDE up with a Read-Only fstab setup?
Advice, anything?
I've poked at ln -s with no success.
Still have .XAuthority and xlog issues, no start with
Startx python app.py
And- be nice- please don't ask why.
