There are two options for VNC, first is tightvncserver which will give you a virtual desktop and x11vnc which will repeat the actual desktop.

The instructions for setting up a fixed IP address can be found by running man dhcpcd.conf and looking for the static IP settings.

Rather than set a fixed IP in your Pi you can also tell your router to give the Pi the same address every time. That's what I do and then if I need to hook my Pi up to a different network it will just get a dynamic address.

Another option is remote desktop:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install xrdp
and use Remote Desktop Connection from Windows Accessories.

Jessie has the multicast domain name server installed by default, so you can address your RPi as computer_name.local from Windows or anywhere else on the network, meaning you don't need to know the IP address.

I thought you needed Bonjour service installed on Windows to do that...

You do. It's relatively painless to install avahi-daemon to provide the Bonjour service.

I have Bonjour running on my Windows 10, and my Jessie Pi 2 tells me that it looks like xrdp is already running, but I can't connect with RDC.

My Pi appears on my home network as xxxx. Do I type in xxxx.local as the name of the remote computer?

Thanks

CJ
