Hi iam using Rasbian wheezy and i have followed the tutorial here http://elinux.org/RPi_Peripherals and idont get it to work.
I am using a powerd usb hub to power the wifi card

there is a passage in the tutorial you linked about error -22 saying it's about firmware issues:

If no wlanx device is shown, you might need to download firmware for your USB wifi device (or track down other compatible drivers if they are available). To confirm this, check the dmesg output when you plug in your adapter - typing dmesg at the command prompt may be sufficient - and look for information related to your adapter - the example dmesg output below shows what is seen in the event of the TP-Link firmware not being present - notice that the name of the required firmware file is given (htc_9271.fw), the driver name (ath9k_htc) and an error -22 message

Did you acquire the firmware?

i completet the tutorial and it's says that the device is not connetible and the i get the error code 22

I followed many descriptions (using the latest raspian image (from mid-July)) to set up my TL-WN821n and most of them were unnecessary. For instance, there might be no need to use WPA supplicant. The only addition I needed was this:

sudo apt-get install crda
sudo nano /etc/default/crda (change the line REGDOMAIN= to include your country code)

when i am trying to boot with the wifi stick in i get this error code "eth0 kevent 4 may have been dropped" and it wont start and when i unplugge the usb stick the pi will start.

that device uses the same chipset as the netgear N150.
i am using it right out of the box with the following /etc/network/interfaces files:


auto lo

iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-conf /etc/wpa.conf



and with the following wpa.conf file located in /etc/ folder:

network={
ssid="wirelessnetwork"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
psk="0123456789"
}

that is all i had to do to get wireless working, latest raspian has the firmware already. :)
hope this helps...


i used sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces to edit that file, cntrl o, to save and cntrl x to exit.


i used sudo nano /etc/wpa.conf to create the file.... used the same cntrl commands above to save the file and exit...

then did a reboot.... :)

side note, the device is plugged right into the raspberry pi, not an external powered hub. wireless keyboard and mouse (genesis slimstar 8000 usb dongle) also plugged directly into usb port on raspi. works great. :)

Hi bastian,

Do you have the newest Raspbian installed? According to waltermixxx above your chipset works there. Would upgrading or trying it with a second SD card?

Nevertheless, let us start over with the problem at hand. Could you please execute "lsusb" in a terminal while the device is plugged in and post the relevant parts here? I'm still wondering about the error 22 and chipset/firmware issues.

Keep in mind that a lot of people are having problems with hubs on the pi, especially powered ones, especially with wifi devices plugged into them, so don't rule that out as a problem. As you probably are already aware, the TL-WN722N is a very power hungry device. Because of all these hub problems and the fact that I am running headless anyway, I was able to get it running by powering it from both usb ports using a splitter cable to get enough power, as another poster suggested. Of course, not everyone has the luxury of not needing any more usb ports. I used vnc from another computer to get into the pi through the wired ethernet cable to set up the network files in order to get the TL-WN722N up and running. One of the errors I received was also "Failed to initialize" when using just one USB cable, but I don't recall seeing Error 22, although there were a ton of errors. Mine installed on Wheezy without much extra fuss.

With your usb hub setup as above, do " lsusb -v | grep Transfer". Count the number of "Transfer Type Interrupt" occurances in the output of this.

If it comes to more than 8, the you have (one of ) the current "usb problems" with the (Linux) firmware.

If more the 8, then unplug all usb devices except the hub and the 722N wif (I assume the wifi is in the hub), then reboot.
Keep a eye on the scrolling boot messages. Still get error -22? Is the green led on in the 722N or is it flashing?

Report back - I'll keep an eye out - if God spares me!

Well you had more than 8 "Transfer Type Interrupt"!

Let me be quite clear that:

1. You removed everthing from the hub except the 722N wifi ( including the keyboard & mouse) and you had ONLY the hub attached to the RPi's USB, and then loaded the system. When you did this you got error -22 and no green led on the adaptor?

2. If the above is correct, then I suggest you check the voltage between TP1 and TP2 and this should be at least 4.75v. What is the power rating of you supply?

1 yes it's correct i removed every thing and no green light were appering on the wifidongle and that and the hub is the only thing that i hade connected to the pi
2 what are you mennig with tp1 and tp2

The basic question I want ask, is the power supply you are using providing enough voltage to the RPi board?

What voltage do you measure between test points TP1 & TP2 on the board with the hub + wifi adaptor connected? What current (amps) can your power supply provide?

If you do not have a voltage meter - borrow one

i just update the raspberry pi fireware and now when plug in the wifi dongle a quick green flash appers but nothing more and i dont get a error code 22 any more. but the wifi dongle wont still setup a vaild connection to my wifi network.

You do not need to to download the software for the adaptor, it is already on the system. Start at the section labeled:

"Add adapter definition to network config - eg: sudo vi /etc/network/interfaces - add the wlan0 section"
