Forgive me if I'm asking something stupid... I haven't used an RPi since the first one and was wondering if the config.txt is the same for the RPi 3? Is there an example config.txt somewhere or will one be automatically generated when I install an OS to the SDCARD?

you'll get one with a new image
there are extra options in it
