Pi doesn't like my monitor

Fri Mar 04, 2016 2:36 am

Just got my Pi 2 up and running but it will not work with the old VGA monitors I have. It works fine with my TV which I can connect with an HDMI cable.

The monitors are being connected with an adapter. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007PL ... ge_o03_s00

One monitor is a Dell and the other is a MAG.

Can I change some setting so that the Pi will work with my old monitors?

If I change that setting, will the Pi still work with the TV?

Thanks for your help.

According to your previous post your Pi isn't booting

It's always a nice thing to let people know that issues are fixed.

It wasn't that the Pi wasn't booting, the problem was that I could only see the desktop for a few seconds before the screen went to black. I worked around that by plugging into a newer TV instead of the older monitors I was trying to use. They still are not working but I may have made contact with someone who has a solution to that problem. If I do solve my problem I will post the solution that I work out- if I can. At least now by using the Tv I can make whatever change to the settings that will let me have the Pi work with the old monitor.

You may have to set a specific mode. See viewtopic.php?f=28&t=5851&p=77547#p77547

Basically you rip out all the hdmi settings from /boot/config.txt and then run diagnostics to determine the correct setting

You may have to change settings (or additional ones) to get it to work again on your tv, but I would not worry about that for now.
(there are ways of setting parameters for specific screens).
