RPi2 and salvaged parts

Wed Feb 10, 2016 11:21 am

Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie to RPi and in need of help as it usually implies :)
I managed after 2 months to get my hands on a RPi2 in Qatar (friend brought it over for me from another country). No one in PC shops or anyother shops ever heard of ANY board. So that takes away my chance on getting peripherals and parts for it :(
I have a RPi2 as said, a laptop, an old non-working laptop but the screen maybe works. I could get some motors by salvaging something in my camp (brushless). I have an 8" android tab that I don't use. A old android phone... I don't even mind taking apart my blender :D
For now i connected my RPI throuout ethernet VNC on my laptop and a powerbank.
Is there any way to get that display panel working as screen for my RPI? I can't get the controllers or any other part needed. that i assume makes a big problem.
I would buy from Ebay or any other site but... I already tried to get 2 things here from ebay from sellers that i know, nothing came for 2 months now. I beleve they sent the packages
So, again... Salvaged display and RPi2 without any other parts? Y/N?

Much thanks, Lemi

Sorry Lemi, It's bad news, you won't get that display working without some kind of driver board for it.

You will also need a motor driver board before you can use those motors.

I would be blue but the way you answered my question made me feel better. Thanks man
I forgot to mention, I do have a 8" tablet that I don't use. Maybe it will be good for something sometime in future

I program my Pi from my tablet all the time, I have been using Turbo SFTP client, write the code on my tablet (using a soft keyboard) and then save it to the Pi to run later.

I installed Apache on my Pi, creating a set of webpages using Turbo SFTP client on the tablet and saving them on the pi, then view them from the tablet web-browser.

I'm still stuck with trying to get its window manager to run. Always getting "can't open display" in terminal via Putty ssh
tried every single solution found online and still nothing. but that's another subject.
Thanks Doug

You can't run the desktop/GUI via SSH. Look into VNC for remote desktop.
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

Hi,

You should be able to find cheap used DVI LCD monitors and HDMI->DVI cables locally ... that takes care of the display. Or get a TV with an HDMI input.

Same for USB keyboards/mice.

Regarding the display from the broken laptop, you might be able to find an HDMI adapter board for it on Ebay, but unless you can get it shipped via courier, you may have postal issues.

5V 2A+ "phone chargers" should be everywhere...
