Python robot app - no mouse...

This is NOT a hardware problem. My mouse works fine.
I'm new to Linux, but I'm trying to "trim the fat" from startx.
My mouse normally works, but not when I try this:
startx /usr/bin/python /home/myapp.py (path name forgotten)
I get the wonderful window with everything else the way I wanted, just no mouse pointer.
I take it I may need a script? Or is there a missing startx option?
