How can I install VMac for emulate Mac OS 7.5.5 on Raspberry

Fri Aug 03, 2012 1:32 pm

Hello,
I am new on Raspberry Pi and I am using Debian.
I am using a Mac OS X since I was 8 years old so I love Mac software.
So I have thought about how I could install Mac OS on my Raspberry Pi.
And I remember that there is a Mac OS 7 emulator for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android, iPhone OS available here : http://www.vmac.org and here : http://minivmac.sourceforge.net
This emulator works on ARM platform (android,iPhone OS) and on Linux so I think it is possible to use it on Raspberrypi but I don't know how can I install it.
Help me please !!!

No one by the looks of it has actually ported it to Linux (Arm) , the Android and iOS versions are different.

I think it would have to be ported to arm linux itself and I don't know how recompile it (The source code looks different to me compared to normal applications :S )

Hope this helps :)

Minivmac 3.3.2 Alpha works well on the Raspberry Pi running Raspbian. You can download a pre-compiled ARM binary from this link:

http://minivmac.sourceforge.net/doc-3.3/download.html

You will need a vMac.ROM file (with that exact file name) which contains a Mac Plus rom. If you intend to do this legally, you technically need to own a Mac Plus, but that's another matter entirely.

I recommend reading up on this page for everything else you'll need:

http://minivmac.sourceforge.net/doc/start.html

One final note: sound appears to be buggy on the Pi for now. You can disable it with the "-alsadev noexist" option on the command line when starting MinivMac, or you can compile your own binary with sound turned off (plus, if you compile your own, you can set a custom resolution for MinivMac that will do real fullscreen, and a few other things)

Have fun, I know I am!

Thanks for that constructive post.

a .tgz file is actually an .tar archive file that has been gzipped.
although you have elaborately described your problem and posted any error messages you encounter i am not able to think of a fix for your problem other than

unzip and extract the file using the following command:

Code: Select all

tar -zxvf filename.tgz
Please read: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+7%3A7&version=NIV

Use loads of sunscreen, use the search, be elaborate in questions, paste commands and error messages, and remember google is your friend!

Well, I'm not surprised.

No one has ever heard of giant plaid squirrel unzipping (or un-tarring) a file.

In fact, I think I can say authoritatively, that such has never happened.
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

(One of the best lines I've seen on this board lately)

Hi All,

Seems a bit of time has gone by on this topic without any updates. I would be interested to know if anyone has managed to get mini vMac running on the Pi natively. I.e., not hosted.
