Pi power issues

Some information for those of you who have strange problems with your Pi. Older mice and keyboards are power hoggs!
I've been having strange crashes that really I couldn't find an explanation for until I realised that they only happened when I wasn't using my wireless keyboard and mouse. With my old m-soft mouse (sorry, I can't bring myself to say the word) however, crashes all the time. So now I use that nasty little rodent through a powered USB hub and it seems to behave itself.
Now I am wondering if this has any bearing on the corruption I was getting on the FAT file system with config.txt and start.elf... Time for some more experimentation!
Could this be another example of msofts attempts to cripple Linux!
