Very slow internet speeds on the raspberry pi

So I got my Raspberry Pi today and i'm already testing alot of stuff with it.

One thing I noticed is that the internet speed is really really really REALLY slow.

I give my Raspberry Pi plenty of juice (5v 2000mah) and have only powered a simple keyboard, mouse and a wifi dongle but my internet speed is unbearable slow.

On my computer my download is 120Mbps and upload is 12Mbps. Now I understand and am ok with the fact that the Raspberry Pi probably wont reach these speeds, but I would like at least half of what they advertise on the ethernet (100mbps) so I was hoping at least 50mbps (through cable or better yet: wifi since thats what i want to use it for).

I tested with both cable and wifi dongle (cable works slightly better though) but I can't even get 1Mbps lots of times. The best I did after 20 tests or so was 11.88Mbps download and 10.04Mbps upload using cable. But this was very rare and extremely lucky. Now I dont even come close to these speeds, especially using wifi.

I sometimes cant even get a single Mbps. Only a small 60kbps download is something that happens alot and I have no idea how or why.

Also the latency/ping is almost 10 times as big as on my desktop computer.

Any idea what is causing this or how I can resolve this? Maybe a setting somewhere in the RBP that limits the internet speeds?

Thanks alot for helping a noob out :D

This what you should expect:

Internal LAN (10/100): 94.4 Mbits/sec (11.8 MB/sec)
USB 802.11n WiFi: 44.5 Mbits/sec (5.6 MB/sec)

If you want to watch Youtube you will NOT be able to do this in Epiphany Browser.

In Raspbian you can install KODI Multimedia Software from the Repository or alternatively kweb:

My Internet connection speed is 50/10 MBit and I get full speed from my Pis. From local web servers on my LAN I'm getting full speed (11.2 MBytes/sec).
