Hi there. Noob looking for some advice

Hi guys I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say what a brilliant community it seems to be.
I got my hands on a pi2 and have been using retropie to fill my old school gaming needs (using this forum for advice may I add). By following posts on here, it works flawlessly by tweaking and using an external usb hub.
But I wanted to explore more of what this fantastic little machine can do. So I turned my attention to a Linux based OS. Ive installed rasbian using noobs and I have a few general questions that this forum may be able to help with. I'm fairly new to the world of Linux so please go easy lol.
1. I would like a media player to use in raspbian which I can use like vlc on a Windows machine. Ive seen that omx player seems to be the choice, but is there a way of using a gui where I can double click a video and it will just play, or right click and select 'play with'? The reason I ask is I just wanted something fairly simple rather than use a command line all the time.
2. Does rasbian have the ability to use programs such as k3b and use an external cd writer to burn disks? I have a powered usb hub so powering the drive shouldn't be an issue.
I really appreciate any advice or comments in advance. And just want to say again that this forum is by far the best place to be for raspberry pi fans.
