Noob question on powering off

Sat Jan 02, 2016 12:18 pm

Recently bought the raspberry pi 2, and for now I'm just using it as a media centre with open elec and blackbox installed.
Now regarding turning off and on the pi, at the moment to turn on I'm just pulling the plug/switch the switch, until I get a button installed. To turn off I go down to power off system on the main page, now once I've powered off the system the standby red light remains on. Is it still safe to pull the plug with the light on without doing any damage to the sd card etc.
Thankyou

Yes that red light shows it is powered. If the green light has stopped flashing (it won't take long) just pull the plug or switch it off at the wall socket.

Please don't switch off the power without doing the "power off system" thing, as you might corrupt the SD card

The GPU firmware normally winks the green LED ten times when it's about to reach a shutdown state. After those ten winks it's always safe to pull the power.
