Connecting to an alarm panel serial port

Wed Dec 09, 2015 4:00 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to connect a pi to my alarm printer port - which is a TTL serial printer port with only 0v, TX and DTR.

As I'm not too bothered about sending anything to the alarm, I can live without the RX, but the alarm seems to require some sort of hardware handshaking on DTR ( in the alarm manual, they say that DTR on the alarm connects to DTR on the printer). Without the DTR pin connected to anything (or just jumped to the 0V) the alarm panel says that there is no printer attached.

I've got a 3.3v to 5v logic level converter for the TX/RX part but I'm unsure how I can handle the DTR part - anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure that this post is in the right place. You might want to put it into one of the forums under Projects or Hardware and Peripherals.
