Newbie book

Sun Nov 29, 2015 9:15 pm

Hi

I have raspberry pi version b I think, its been used as a media server but want to have a go at its proper use, but never done coding of any kind before.

Can any one recommend a good book to get me started? Simple things like setting up I should be fine with but the rest is new territory.

My ultimate goal is to help automate my aquarium in some respects, temp control, automation of water volumes ( float switches). Warning emails etc when something is not correct.

There are quite a few books around; you will find paper ones that cost money and might be out of date.

I would suggest that you start with the MagPi - the official magazine - that can be downloaded as a free PDF from here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/magpi/issues/ (there are 40 of them, plus a special)

If you know what you want to do, search the internet for that topic; again there are quite a few blogs, etc. around, and again you might need to be careful that they are not out of date. Post on the forum if you hit a specific problem later.
