edimax ew-7811un

Thu Nov 26, 2015 5:59 pm

I have a raspberry pi 2 model (raspbian jessie), and I want to use edimax ew-7811un wifi adapter. I have follow two guides to install it but I did not achieve.

I have followed this steps:

1. /etc/network/interfaces

Code: Select all

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto wlan0
allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet manual
wpa-roam /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

iface default inet dhcp
2./etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

Code: Select all

network={
ssid="Euskaltel-xxx"
proto=RSN
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
pairwise=CCMP TKIP
group=CCMP TKIP
psk="TFatxxxx"
}
3./etc/modules

Code: Select all

snd-bcm2835
i2c-dev
8192cu

When I write lsusb command I receive this, so the adapter is recognized.

Code: Select all

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9514 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
What am I doing wrong??

I did the installation with this script
wget "http://raspberry-at-home.com/files/ap_setup.sh"
chmod +x ap_setup.sh
sudo ./ap_setup.sh

it worked for me, than you have an access point also

Hi,
The Edimax EW-7811Un should work "out of the box" with Raspbian Jessie.

Standard /etc/network/interfaces

Code: Select all

# interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)

# Please note that this file is written to be used with dhcpcd
# For static IP, consult /etc/dhcpcd.conf and 'man dhcpcd.conf'

# Include files from /etc/network/interfaces.d:
source-directory /etc/network/interfaces.d

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface eth0 inet manual

allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet manual
    wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

allow-hotplug wlan1
iface wlan1 inet manual
    wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
Standard /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

Code: Select all

ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1

network={
        ssid="Your WiFi SSID"
        psk="Your WiFi Password"
        key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
}
Also, The EW-7811 can drop the WiFi connection after a period of inactivity. The fix for this is to create the file

Code: Select all

/etc/modprobe.d/8192cu.conf
with permissions

Code: Select all

-rw-r--r-- root root  86 Oct 17 16:00 8192cu.conf
containing the line

Code: Select all

options 8192cu rtw_power_mgnt=0 rtw_enusbss=0
This prevents the EW-7811 from going to sleep.

Hope this helps,
Dave.

Good to hear it's sorted your problem.

For a static IP you need to edit file /etc/dhcpcd.conf. There are several posts in the forum about setting a static IP. Search the forum for dhcpcd and you should find some. Or try man dhcpcd.conf.

For a wifi static IP you need to add something like this to the end of the file /etc/dhcpcd.conf

Code: Select all

interface wlan0
static ip_address=192.168.1.201/24
static routers=192.168.1.1
static domain_name_servers=192.168.1.1
but using IP values to suit your own network.
