DVI Splitter?

Hi Folks

I am going to need a DVI splitter to use my Pi with my monitor. I have looked on amazon and ebay but feel slightly confused….

Clearly I need a splitter that provides 2 female inputs for my PI and PC to attach to one male connector for my monitor… However splitters that look like this appear to have descriptions of one input to two outputs.. effectively being used in the reverse of what I want… they seem to be built to show one image on two monitors rather than two sources to one monitor?

What am I missing ? Can anyone point me at a low cost splitter that will allow me to plug my PI and PC into a pair of connectors that terminate in to one for my monitor?

Cheers

Peter

well, what you describe is normally not called a splitter but a switch.

Yup, that is true, I realised that while I was waiting for my post to be approved... So can anyone point me in the direction of a low cost DVI switch?

This is about the cheapest I have seen, around a tenner.

I think this is the one I'm using, from Amazon USA: http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-High-Perfor ... B0015YWKYY

At least it looks just like it -- there's no brand name in this price range. I use it to switch between two PCs and RasPi or BeagleBoard. It automatically switches to the active HDMI signal, so I rarely need to press the select button. Uses a nifty little Pericom HDMI switch chip.

This looks like the Amazon UK version: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Proxima-Switche ... B0063M4E6A

DVI and HDMI are pin compatible, price in the cost of as many adapters as you will need (since the pi is HDMI) and see what comes out cheaper

You wouldn't. Go DVI to DVI and have just one HDMI to DVI adapter for the Pi. The switch you found is the cheapest I've seen. Shame there isn't an auto-detect switch at a reasonable price, though.

For those who might be interested it arrived and I can confirm the DVI switch works well :)

What you need is a DVI Switch. DVI is digital and low quality products will only give you issues. I would recommend checking Part # DVI-WR-2P.
