Desktop Shortcut URL's

Mon Oct 19, 2015 6:03 pm

Hi,

I havebeen trying to put shortcuts for web sites onto a desktop (for my mother-in-law!) to get to Waitrose and M&S, I copy a URL script which works and have been modifying it slowly to see when it fails:

This works:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Link
Name=Raspberry Pi website
Comment=The infamous Raspberry Pi computer
Icon=/home/pi/raspberrypi.jpg
URL=http://www.raspberrypi.org

This also works:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Link
Name=i website
Comment=The infamous Raspberry Pi computer
Icon=/home/pi/raspberrypi.jpg
URL=http://www.google.co.uk

However this doesn't!:
Desktop Entry]
Type=Link
Name=i website
Comment=The infamous Raspberry Pi computer
Icon=/home/pi/raspberrypi.jpg
URL=http://www.google.com

This comes up with "Select an Application to open "HTML Document" files - and even when I link it to epiphany or iceweasel and say use as default it still asks this every time.

I am using nano as the text editor, and they are in the same folder (Desktop)

Thanks In advance

The only difference is that I have changed the ".co.uk" to a ".com"

Works for me if I choose the default application in the shortcut properties (right click - properties - open with).

Thanks - that does solve it, but doesn't explain why as soon as I put .com in it wants a response to which app to open, yet when I change it back it is fine??
