HDMI to VGA

Tue Sep 22, 2015 9:58 pm

Hi

I have just purchased a raspberry pi and the plan is to get about 15 of them (because I am a computing/ICT teacher) and I am having trouble connecting it to a monitor. Now I have a HDMI monitor at home, so I have installed Raspian and have read endless forums and videos and I have gone into the config text file to delete the # from the hdmi_force_hotplug, the hdmi_drive, the hdmi_group and the hdmi_mode lines and changed the hdmi_group = 1 to 2 and the hdmi_mode=4 to 16.
I have been racking my brains out and edited the config text file and it still isn't working. Can anyone help me !!! Because it's doing me head in!!

Cheers
Jono

You have an HDMI monitor, but the thread title says "HDMI to VGA". In order to help you out I think we'll need to know more about the VGA part.

Hey there
Sorry pal, I have a HDMI monitor at home, but not at work (hence the Vga part). I have one of those vga/HDMI converters , powered by usb, I'm wondering whether it's a dodgy converter

If it is a RPi 2 B then these should suffice or similar:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Patuoxun-Adapte ... B00F6RZZMU

Though you should have a good quality and stable 5V2A PSU like:

As an aside and you are ICT have you seen the PiNet Software ?

Rather than negativity think outside the box !
RPi 4B 4GB (SSD Boot) RaspiOS64 ARM64
Asus ChromeBox 3 Celeron is my other computer...

You may need different settings for the HDMI-to-VGA converter (compared to the "home" HDMI monitor) since such often do not support (or pass through info. about) all the settings the VGA monitor may support. FWIW, you may find my "display optimisation" notes of interest (once you have a display somewhere or can ssh/login remotely) which are here:

Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm
