Starting Arch Linux

Fri Jul 20, 2012 10:36 am

I want to try the Arch Linux distro on my Pi, but how do you do it?

I have prepared my SD card, connected Pi to the TV and powered up. After the initial boot, I logged in as root, but then all I got was the command prompt.

Is there a command to start Arch so that it opens with a GUI like Debian?
Or what do I do to start using Arch?
Is it a command line interface only?

Regards

Arch by default only has the command line. You can of course install several GUIs.

They have an excellent wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/ but honestly, if you're lost already, you might want to start with debian/raspbian/puppy and get your sea legs with those before moving on to arch which does a lot less hand-hoding.

Thanks for the help.
I shall check the Arch website and see what is involved in installing a GUI. In the meantime I shall be running Debian and also look at Puppy.
