I have no idea what I'm doing

I'm trying to get my RPi hooked up to the internet. I can't plug it directly into my router but I was thinking about making a bridge between the pi and my laptop. I'm on win7 with no knowledge of Linux but eager to learn, help please.

:D

You have nothing special to do on the Linux side. Just configure Internet Connexion Sharing in Windows, and run a crossed ethernet cable from the Pi to your Windows box (unless your ethernet port has autosensing, in which case a regular, straight, ethernet cable will work).

If you're using wifi, you're better off buying a wifi dongle for the Pi.
