open arena 1fps

I have raspberry pi 2 with ubuntu mate 15 and a 32gb sd and openarena just runs me at 0.5 fps.
Can anyone tell me why and how to solve this? I just be able to run openarena flawlessly.

Are you using just the version that comes with Ubuntu ? That one probably hasnt been optimized to use the necessary hardware acceleration.

There are some special packages made for Raspbian ( ref: viewtopic.php?t=8673 ) but have no idea if they will work with Ubuntu.
