That should work except for the fact that you've also copied the zipfile onto the card, which will probably mess things up.

Try it this way instead

(assuming clean formatted filesystem on card)
desktop:~/Downloads/noobs$ sudo mkdir /pi
desktop:~/Downloads/noobs$ sudo mount /dev/sdc1 /pi
desktop:~/Downloads/noobs$ unzip NOOBS_v1_4_1.zip -d /pi
(unzipping happens)
desktop:~/Downloads/noobs$ sudo umount /dev/sdc1
Which saves you a step by unzipping the contents directly onto the SD card
