The quick start page says Class 4 SD cards, but doesn't specify if other higher class ones can be used. I am reading some others have had luck with Class 6 and Class 10 (something about copying boot folder manually). Can someone shed some light one exactly what Classes of SD cards can be used for the RP?

The firmware is being improved all the time. Eventually all high class cards will be supported at reasonable speeds. (however mounting the root filesystem on a flash drive will be fastest)

The key word here was "eventually".
The software driver was and is been improved constantly, so some cards that didn't work on a distribution from last month will work on todays distribution and perhaps next month even more cards will work.

The list on the wiki is just a collective effort, and may be outdated.

So at the moment the situation is "in flux", and no definite advice is possible, it depends on the card, and which software you are using it with, but newer in this case is better.

Then there is the "little issue" of fake and re-branded cards, that might be of very low quality, or even misrepresenting their capacity, obviously a 2GB card that is actually a 1GB card wont be able to contain a 1.5GB image. Especially Sandisk cards on ebay are often fakes.

I have bought two generic class 10 8GB cards from Maplin and not had any issues. Cost me £7.99 each
