GPIO Power

Tue Apr 21, 2015 7:53 pm

Hi all, sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this in.

I've done several searches, but GPIO and POWER are so common I can't find the answer I need. I'm wanting to use the 5v off the GPIO pin 2 (I'm using the PI A+) to power an LCD. I already have the screen running at 5v, and when I tested it, the Pi powered it fine (albeit a bit jerkily, but I was physically holding the wires (safely) to the GPIO, so I daresay that was me shaking slightly). What I want to know is if anyone has any experience powering something long-term this way? What are the pitfalls and things I need to watch out for?

Thanks in advance

The LCD I've got running on my RPi A+ is running from pin#2

And you've never had any issues?

That RPi runs all day every day with the LCD backlight switched on. There's even a bit of C code running that LCD constantly with the IPv4 address and clock displayed.
