Can't install most OS

Sun Mar 22, 2015 1:26 am

I have downloaded many of the OS that are listed at http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/, but I can't seem to install any of them unless I use Noobs. The problem is that Noobs does not have the XMB or raspbmc. I did get RetroPie to and didn't have any issue messing around with that. I'm formatting my card every time I try and it seems as though the OS is on the SD card. Only when I pop it in (depending on which OS I use) it either goes to a rainbow colored screen and never moves from it or it goes to a black screen and does not even connect to my TV via HDMI.

I don't get why I can't seem to get anything to install.

Raspberry Pi 2, and I have 4 different brands of micro SD cards that I'm trying with each distro. Attempting installation using Win32DiskImager and running as admin. Any suggestions?

(With Raspbmc I've even tried both the installer from the official site and the one on the site listed).

Sorry... Additional I fo. When using noobs hooked up to the Internet the only OS that seems to install is Raspbian. All other crash when they try to boot.

NOOBS does not have support for many OSes which are RPi2 B compatable.

Personally I prefer to install each OS on a sperate SD Card ;)
Rather than negativity think outside the box !
RPi 4B 4GB (SSD Boot) RaspiOS64 ARM64
Asus ChromeBox 3 Celeron is my other computer...

The new version of NOOBs is only for raspbian. Noobs contains raspbian, and noobs lite doesn't contain any OS but allows you to download raspian.

Here is a nodded version of noobs with Raspian, Ubuntu linaro, RISC OS, and XBMC. You'll need a 32gb SD but they are all already installed so you don't need to download anything etc. I think he also made a 16gb version but I'm not positive.

After rereading your question, you may also be installing raspberry pi 1 OS on your Pi 2. Click the "more info" under the OS name and it will either say Raspberry pi 1, pi 2 or both. Raspian, and Ubuntu should definitely work. OpenELEC for pi 2 can be downloaded from the Openelec site, you can also get Ubuntu 14.04 and 15.04 mate, just run a google search on either - "ubuntu 14.04 desktop raspberry pi" should do it.
