wifi "Roaming"

Fri Jul 06, 2012 3:46 pm

I've got the RPi connected to my WiFi network. What I would like it to do it attach to any of a preconfigured list of WiFi networks automatically. At startup would be good. Dynamically attaching to another network if one is lost would be even better. I run the RPi headless using vnc and would like to just power it on and it attach to a known network. I could setup a hot spot at a new location to get in and then would like to add the new location's WiFi to the list.

WICD gives you an easy way to choose which networks to connect to.

It might do roaming aggressiveness as well, but I don't know.

I purchased a cheap unpranded mini wifi adapter off eBay. They all seam to use the same chip set. I got one with "n" and it was not much more. If you are waiting for your RPi then consider the saving getting one from china etc. If you have a RPi then aim for a local supplier as it will arive a lot more quickly. I will try to remember to post more details of the install process.

I don't suppose you could send me an exact link to the same one you bought please? I've found ones like these but I'm not sure if they'll work or not: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WIFI-150MBPS- ... 070wt_1037
