Wifi Set-up

Tue Mar 03, 2015 8:13 pm

Hey Guy's,

first of all, this going to be a mayor leek/noob question...

I've just bought my first Pi yesterday and I wanted to install my Wifi Dongle today.
So I asked in the shop a plug and play device so I could browse right away.
He gave me the TP-link TL-WN823N.
I plugged it in, went looking for the information to config the settings...
I've scanned for the home wifi but could not find it...

So i'm wondering if this thing just does not work?
It came whit a disk... But I can't install the cd...
So my best guess is to download the drive on a USB stick and install the software on the Pi?
Could somebody help me, give me a tip?

don't do that! ;)

please post the output of following commands - your wifi usb dongle should be plugged:
lsusb
dmesg
ifconfig -a
Raspberry Pi 1 Model B+ (since 2014-08-10): Raspbian jessie / Debian 8.1
Raspberry Pi 2 Model B (since 2015-03-10): OpenELEC 5.0.8

Hi,

I also have a TP-LINK TL-WN823N , and I got my first Rpi 2 two days ago.

The dongle can be connected to my wifi network , but it's disconneted and then connected every 2 minute.

On my notebook (Ubuntu 14.04), I compiled the driver according to this link and it works smoothly:
https://github.com/pvaret/rtl8192cu-fixes

But on Rpi , it works badly.

Code: Select all

lsusb:
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0bda:8178 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8192CU 802.11n WLAN Adapter
