Hello
i'm a new user of raspberry pi 2.
I use it as music server with volumio.
Now i use raspberry analog audio output.
I have to say that the sound quality is good ! (compared to my smartphone samsung ace)
Why everybody saying that the rpi sound is poor?
I use good stereo speakers with sony stereo amp
Is rpi2 better than rpi1?
If i buy the hifi berry it will be even better?

PI2 will be the same as the PI1 as it is the same hardware in the SoC used to produce the analogue signal. I beleive the PWM technique used is the eqivalent of only 11 or 12 bits. (I may be wrong)
A HiBerry or any of the other I2S DACs available will produce better quality sound even if they only support 16 bit audio (CD eqivalent) or 24 bit (even better).

But why everybody is writing that the sound is very bad directly from RPI ? Or maybe I'm deaf ...
I think it is better that low end smartphone sound from the 3,5mm jack.
I discovered that the voulume needs to be set to 95%. When i set 100% volume i hear distortion.
But if you say external DAC will be even better i will buy one.
USB or I2S DAC is better ?

Sorry to deflect this thread a bit - I've got my RPI set up as a Squeezebox server & want to output the audio from the USB into my external DAC/preamp, but can't seem to see how to do this. Help appreciated!
