TFT Display interface with Raspberry Pi B+

Sat Jul 24, 2021 8:13 am

Hello All,

I am new to this forum. I have a raspberry pi model B+, raspberry pi 1, UniPi boards along with one TFT 3.5inch display. I am absolutely new to this coding on LX Terminal, Python. So, I have practically zero idea about how to code Pi with TFT display. Yesterday, I was successful in running GPIO LEDs with a few tutorials on youtube.

Today, I wanted to interface the TFT display with Pi and as a starter I just wanted to print 'Hello World' or any text on the display. But for some reason, the tutorials on youtube confused me to no end. Could anyone suggest me a way to do this?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,

DVLK!

It would help if you can give the make and model of the TFT.

Thank you so much for your response.

Sure!

The TFT is from 'adafruit' 3.5" 320x400 TFT u/Touch Screen for Raspberry Pi! It says STMPE610 + HX8357D.

I tried attaching the image but for some reason, I am unable to paste it here.
Hope this information is helpful.

Is this the one https://www.adafruit.com/product/2097 ?

Have you followed their instructions, and if so where's the problem ?

Yes this is the same product.

My concern is just to print 'Hello World' on the TFT. Because, I don't want to use the TFT for programming or any other purpose. I want to run this Pi setup as a single programmed unit with a few texts being displayed in regular test intervals.

gordon has mentioned out the guide, its an excellent one. By following that, you can easily print Hello World, infact more than that.

When I work with TFT LCDs, I normally design images of my text. As you want to display Hello World, then design an image(that should say Hello world) and simply display it on LCD. Here's the guide for displaying images: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pit ... ing-images

Are you thinking of using python ?

Have you looked at pygame to show text ?
