Hi,
I"ve compiled openELEC for raspberry pi, and made an image file with partition table and my build on it.
Feel free to download it and install it on your SD card:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xmuc9rr89u1b ... lec.img.xz
The easiest way to install it is to xzcat it to your device. If you wanna use dd or cat, you have to extract it with xz first. Something like this is preferred: xzcat openelec.img.xz > /dev/sdb
You need a SD card which is atleast 2GB.
The image file contains 2 partitions, one with system files and one which is the storage partition.
If you want a bigger storage partition, you have to resize it yourselves.
First time boot takes a while. Be patient! It takes some extra time because it has to generate ssh keys and save stuff to the storage partition.

Excellent work sir!
Just for my curiosity and future reference, care to edit your post to show which build version it is?

@effbiai
Got your version of openELEC installed and working this afternoon, very pleased with it and it played every divx and mp4 file I threw at it.
I've only got one suggestion, can you turn off the RSS feed by default,as this slowed the menu system down slightly?
Apart from that it was a very responsive version of XBMC, and I'm a happy camper
Cheers

It might be easier to get rid of it by changing skin. It's also a couple of skins which are really lightweight, like the PM3.HD skin.

The IMG Posted What Size SD Card Was Used? And Can I Use Gparted To resize The Storage (I Guess) Partition Thats Left Over? Is There A How To Somewhere To Use Another Program To Use If Gparted Can't Be Used? Thanks Smuggly
Re: OpenELEC
I received my Pi today and after playing around with debian squeeze I gave OpenElec a try.
I've got a big, and a small issue but both related in the same reason. It seems to me that the OpenElec Config under Programs is not working. As a result I got the small problem called "wrong keyboard layout" and a big one "can't get wifi to work".
I checked dmesg and it looks like wifi driver is loaded but I can't setup a wifi. I tried setting up a wifi using SSH but "iwconfig" is not found even using root-user.
Can anyone confirm anything of that, or is it just too late to think clear and get it working?
P.S.: LAN is working well from the scratch.

Re: OpenELEC
Hello,
I'm a newbies with my raspberry Pi
I tried debian version, raspbian and now I would like to try Open elec for his multimedia capacity.
I'm on window 7
but I also have a usb key with puppy.
With win disk manager I was able to write the image of debian or raspbian but now it seems to be more complicate...
Can someone be able to explain how to write open elec on sd card?
I've seen a tutorial asking to build your own version, but here you already did it and gave the image directly, so have I to directly go to the preparation of sd card and instal?
The line : "The easiest way to install it is to xzcat it to your device" looks obscur for me... but simple for others...
Thanks for your help

@ usul
just download the file in the 1st post, unpack it using 7zip and write it to sd card like any other OS.

Thanks Beimer,
I'm not familiar with .xz extension and usualy using winrar which doesn't recognise this type of archive. Ok nice I have my .img now.
Let's try it!

Re: OpenELEC
can i use win32diskimager like i did to make debian img to SD card? then maybe use another application to make the storage size bigger as i have a 8GB SD card .
Would be great for a few pointers ...

Re: OpenELEC
Yeah you can use Win32DiskImager to put the image on. Unzip the file with 7zip or a similar program first, then put the image onto your sd card. You can then expand the 2nd partition with something like gparted or minitool to use up the rest of the unallocated space.

I'm Planning On Using Mi Pi To Watch Hd Video Over Gigabit Lan From My Windows Home Server. Will This Do? Is Samba In The Build? Thanks Smuggly

Re: OpenELEC
The big issue with that is that the Pi is only capable of 100mbit, so gigabit on the rest of the network won't affect the Pi (since I will assume you're using a switch, not a hub, and also that you had a gigabit backbone anyway, rather than gigabit capable server with only 100mbit network hardware [switch/router]).smuggly wrote:I'm Planning On Using Mi Pi To Watch Hd Video Over Gigabit Lan From My Windows Home Server. The only issue I've had so far is a very very high bitrate 1080p video, I think the bit rate is something like 17MB/s (which isn't possible over 100mbit) over SMB. Other than that its fine.
Re: OpenELEC
17MB/s seems to me like a totally crazy bitrate. A normal Movie with something like 90minutes playtime would have a filesize of over 91GB. Assuming that a Remux of a BluRay Movie has a maximum size of 50GB you would have a bitrate of max 9,5MB/s which is still at maximum capability of 100Mbit LAN but still possible.

Re: OpenELEC
With the new devel-20120528231553-r11160 build it works much better. Sometimes i have to start playback maybe two or three times but then it works good.
Thank you
Thank you
Re: OpenELEC
Thanks for the info. I Xcode everything to mkv. It plays OK over 100mbits . I,m jusy wondering if the gpu can hang. Its a project to play with. But if it works. You could velcro one in a case almost anywhere!
Thanks for the info.
Wheres the new build at? 11160
I would love a copy of the dev build youre talking about, My Pi just got here in the mail. I will be trying it out this weekend!
