So far (again)

Sun Jan 26, 2014 1:56 pm

Hi

Yesterdays post got lost.

My Pi is now running the latest opensuse (dec 2013), it was done much the same as i would a NOOBS, using XP, and I have moved the partitions around as well.

I have a boot, swap, root and home on a 16 gig card.

ran zypper

zypper install joe

zypper in MozillaFirefox

zypper in yast*

and a few other things.

So I am here on my Pi and typing away using Firefox.

Still a lot to understand about all this.

more later.....

I broke it again.

Did find that

xzcat [image].raw.xz | dd bs=4M of=/dev/sdX; sync

seemed to prefer the line below

xzcat [image].raw.xz | dd bs=4MB of=/dev/sde; sync

Well that all went wrong.

So I redid the SD card and tried again, and that has all gone wrong.
Command line only.

Since I have been using SuSE from version 6.0 I hoped to be able to have my Pi and eat it arf arf.

Looks like I am going back to NOOBS.

Well myself are still NOT use the OSS JePOS made Images , just due an simple reason : it required to resize the dos part to stubidly resize it from 200MB to 199MB to get it stable.

I am still use bernhards Widemans Images.

I used Bernhard Weideman's latest image.

All command line to start - but clear and easy directions were found. Zypper in a bunch of stuff and all worked, mostly. One issue with an external SDD drive - covered in a different thread. But I'm pretty sure that this problem is not the OS, but the firmware updates.

Return to “openSUSE”
