10.2 STABLE image fails to boot

Sat Sep 05, 2015 5:12 am

Just down loaded the 9/4/2015 10.2 STABLE binary image, and am having issues getting it to come up properly.

near the beginning of the run I get the message:
** Unable to read file uEnv.txt **
then the autoboot sequnce
U-Boot (rev 1.2) starts up and we get -
DRAM: 480MB
Number of U-boot devices: 1
loaderdev='mmc 0'
then,
mmc fail to send stop cmd
disk0: real size !- size (repeated several times)
can't load kernel

Type '?'.. etc..
loader>
--------------------------
0f course the USB keyboard does not function here, so this ends the run..

The image is being loaded using Win32DiskImager in Win8.0.. it appears to be doing the right thing.. but can't be sure here..

Any help would be appreciated..

The same happens to me both with 10.2 and with 11.0

But the Message that appears to me is "invalid filesystem type"
:(

I really wanted to try! Anyone knows another imagen source other than building with crochet tool?

I saw that at times also, and to verify it was not my build I downloaded a copy of the SD card 'factory' image for both 10.2 & 11.0, with similar failures.. this was using the same Kingston SD card that booted up Raspian just fine..

I finally tried the original SanDisk that came with the RasPi and wrote the downloaded 10.2 FreeBSD image to it.. booted up and all worked well.. so I tried 11.0 with similar success, and finally my own crochet compiled 10.1 image.. all with great success..

It seems that I was bitten by a flaky SDHC card, and now am testing all before use, and buying higher grade cards to help overcome the sweetness of low price vs the bitterness of reality and poor quality.. :o

Good! I will trybwith another sd card since I just tried my own crochet build and with the same results (wrong fs type).

Thanks,

As an adjunct to the discussion, when you try a different SD card, make it also from a different manufacturer.. I my case the issue was/is with 'Kingston' 8GB cards.. I have a set of three, from two different batches, none will boot properly with FreeBSD images..
As such, I have purchased a bunch of SanDisk cards that seem to work just fine.. 'Caveat Emptor' :)
