Having a "app center" of sorts was a failed experiment, and we have gone back to the normal Linux way of using a repository.
To aid users in installing software through the repository system without using "sudo apt-get install file-to-install" the foundation has organized the GUI software installer (package manager) pi-package that now comes as standard with Raspbian, see: https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/latest ... an-update/.
