Re-compile android app for Rasberry pi?

Wed Dec 10, 2014 6:41 am

hello, my company has recently created a android app (.apk), and my knowledge is not abounding when it comes to raspberry pi.

Is it possible (and or easy) to re-compile the android app in question (.apk) into Java and run it as a standalone on the raspberry pi? are there any useful tools in doing so?

My thoughts are that it will be a much more efficient system, and have less malfunctions, as the program is running itself, rather than having the android system running the app and receiving tasks.

Our app is currently being used in conjunction with an android mini-pc and a IOIO board, and using the IOIO for sending signal to another pcb which has all other intakes (or data collection points)

But as i understand there are options on the raspberry pie or "extension" boards available , so a IOIO board will not be necessary? and or can i continue to use an IOIO board with the raspberry pi?

Will the raspberry pi suit my company's needs? Will porting an android app to raspberry pi through means of java work? Will i need to use a IOIO board

Thanks in advance :)

You cannnot simply recompile your app , you will have
to port it to JavFX or another windowing toolkit avaialable
on Java SE 7/8.

Don't forget that the Pi runs a multitasking Linux OS.
You have the freedom to configure it how you want , but
it comes preconfigured for a very different demographic and
setting than yours.

Does the IOIO work on regular Linux computers ? If yes ,
you might get away by using the board in conjunction with
the Pi.

The Pi doesn't have analog inputs. It's digital pins are not 5V
tolerant and get damaged when you try to drive loads
bigger than 50mW , too.

If not , you should talk to your engineer which kind of electrical
connections you actually use. Cross-check with him if
the features seem enough :

I've tried and succeeded in porting LibGDX (http://libgdx.badlogicgames.com/index.html) app to RPi. That framework is mainly for 2D and 3D games across the platforms (Windows/Linux/OSX/Android/iOS/HTML5) but can be used for 'serious apps' (see here: https://github.com/natdan/gcode-preview 3D printing gcode preview software).

Porting LibGDX to RPi is not simple task and so far nobody really did it thoroughly as 'public friendly' project. I've ported LibGDX to RPi using Habitual Coder's instructions here: http://www.habitualcoder.com/?page_id=257 and got same test app I made working on all 6 supported platforms plus Raspberry Pi. And it worked seamlessly!

Hello,

Has anyone tried some of these kernels?

https://source.android.com/source/building-kernels.html

I tried it long ago but without any success.

I think the problem is in the architecture of the ARM chip and if Raspberry Pi do not change it will be impossible to run Android on Raspberry Pi.

Best regards
