need a tut for installing and running java for beginners

Sun Mar 03, 2013 11:39 pm

Ive been looking but keep finding things that want to "embed jsk on the pi" first, are there any tutorials that assume you have no knowledge and explain what each thing is before you do it?

I would like to be able to install java ide, write a program, turn it into a jar and run it.

Is it going to be simple? if it is is there a way of running java from the command line? I have to ssh in at the moment.

If its easy to copy and paste could someone help me find the same things but for c++11?

It sounds like you are looking for something more comprehensive, but ... the tutorial below is a step-by-step guide for installing the Java 8 Runtime/Development Kit on your Raspberry Pi.

You can run Java programs from the local terminal console (via attached monitor & keyboard) or using a remote SSH terminal connection.

I think you will find that most Java developers will use their PC or MAC (or other beefier Linux workstation) to develop their Java program and then copy the program over to the Pi to run it. I personally use the Eclipse IDE mostly and I would imagine that it runs far too slow on the Pi to be practical. For smaller programs, I do use a text editor such as nano to make changes on the Pi and then compile Java program directly on the Pi using the "javac" command line compiler.

Good Luck!
