How to install jre / jdk on RPi zero

Tue Feb 04, 2020 8:54 pm

So I want to be able to run java applications on my RPi however I am getting this error:
"""
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Server VM is only supported on ARMv7+ VFP
"""

I am aware of why this is occurring but I am wondering if there is a way around this...

That problem had me going for some time. The OpenJDK 11 in the repository won't run on a Pi 0 or 1. I think you can still install JDK 8 from the repository and get it to work but the best answer is to download the Zulu OpenJDK for Arm from azul.com. Azul has both a JDK 8 and JDK 11 available for the Arm 32 bit hard float.

You can also install a special version of OpenJDK 8 for the Zero line

Code: Select all

sudo apt install openjdk-8-jre-zero

Return to “Java”
