Am I in the right place to get help with JMRI and Pi4J?

Sat May 19, 2018 6:46 am

I am looking to use a Pi to display a line drawing of my garden railway layout on a monitor.
The plan involves drawing the diagram in segments that correspond to sensors spread around the layout whose digital output will be read and that output used to change the segments from green to red. Red signifying that a train occupies the segment.
I have looked at Java Model Railway Interface (JMRI) layout editor and at the Pi4J sites and I think both do part of what I want but I need to connect them to get my desired display.
Pi4J has a listener that does things (supplies an output) depending on a digital input on GPIO pins.
JMRI draws the display via panel and layout editor.
Question is has what I am proposing been done before or is there a way to achieve this.
Any help will be greatly appreciated as I am virtually computer illiterate when it comes to programming but am willing to try.
