Guida: Wi-Fi country not set - error 255

Vorrei presentare quello che per me è stato un problema recente.
Con questo topic, fornirò qualche informazione su questo problema poco documentato su forum Italiani con relativa, parziale, risoluzione. Ma vorrei , se possibile, ricevere qualche integrazione e chiarimenti da chi ha competenze in merito per sapere se quella che proporrò è LA SOLUZIONE o solo un palliativo.
Mi piacerebbe sapere se esiste una soluzione definitiva.

Premessa:
Installazione pulita di Raspbian Stretch versione desktop, su Raspberry Pi B+.
kernel version 4.14.98-v7+.

Problema:
Dopo le normali configurazioni iniziali e qualche giorno di utilizzo mi accorgo che cliccando con il tasto sinistro del mouse sul pulsante presente nella traybar (in alto a destra) del wi fi, mi compare questa finestra:

Facendo qualche ricerca scopro che la località è stata impostata correttamente, infatti cliccando su "configura wifi country" nella finestra che è comparsa scopro che, nel menù a tendina che mi viene proposto, la selezione è già posizionata su IT. Perciò mi sposto sul file wpa_supplicant.conf. Anch'esso si dimostra configurato correttamente. Provo a richiamare l'utilità raspi-config, e tramite le frecce di selezione raggiungo le impostazioni della località, selezionando italia. Riavvio. Tutto come prima. Il wi-fi sembra non configurato completamente, rimandandomi a selezionare la località ed impedendomi non solo di disattivarlo da interfaccia grafica ma anche di effettuare la rilevazione di eventuali altre reti nei paraggi.
Allora decido di selezionare un' altra località, diversa da quella italiana, do l'ok. E la situazione diventa questa:

Ritorno nel menu di selezione della località e imposto IT, tutto sembra funzionare.
Poco dopo scopro che se effettuo un reboot, o semplicemente un logout dalla wifi e un successivo login tutto ritorna alla situazione della prima immagine: nessuna località impostata.
Allorché provo a modificare opportunamente (su consiglio di alcune guide online) il file etc/default/crda impostando manualmente REGDOMAIN=IT.
Salvo le modifiche ed eseguo un riavvio. La situazione rimane quella precedente, con tutte le sue caratteristiche negative.

Per completezza riporto l'output di journalctl e dmesg per evidenziare almeno un tratto dei file di log che mi hanno incuriosito.

Salvo e riavvio. Il problema sembra essere risolto, ora la tendina di selezione delle reti wi-fi compare e non mi viene richiesto il settaggio della località.
Tuttavia eseguendo il logout dalla rete wifi in uso in un determinato momento e riconnettendomi subito dopo, l'errore legato al file crda visto sopra viene esposto ricorrentemente.
Questo mi fa pensare che il problema non sia stato completamente eliminato.
Concludo informandovi che molti, facendo una nuova installazione, hanno risolto.
Ho ritenuto opportuno documentare questo errore e questa possibile soluzione, che almeno rende a agevole l'uso quotidiano, ma se esistono altre varianti più corrette, mi piacerebbe sapere quali sono e come approntarle al meglio. Grazie :D
