MCPI, Spawn Animals?

I've been searching and not finding what I'm looking for.

Is there a way to get animals to spawn on Minecraft: Pi Edition?

My 10yo is finally showing interest in the Pi now that she found out Mincraft runs on it... however, she's a huge fan of the animals and is disappointed that they are not there. She plays the PE version on the iPad and has cows, sheep, chickens, pigs, etc.

I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this. I found some pseudo-survival mode patches and stuff about running a server. I may be missing a bit of knowledge here about the operation of Minecraft and how it runs in relation to clients, servers, stand alone.

Then again, I can't for the life of me understand why sub-Wolfenstein-quality graphics are so popular.

Probably irrelevant now... she got Minecraft for the PC and, "it does so much more!"

Technically you are still in creative mode - but you will get features normally only seen in survival mode -night and day modes, animals, crops and treasure chests.
