RetroPie

Tue Dec 23, 2014 9:20 pm

Hello, I am new to RaspberryPi and i was hopping to get some answers for my project ideas. The whole Raspberry Pi is a new concept to me in a way since i have never heard about it untill recently and untill i can mess around with it i will then only understand what else I can use it for. I may be a noob to Raspberry Pi but i have experience in linux and all that other good stuff. Im not much of a "Gamer" but i enjoy playing casually for whenever i have a little bit of free time.

I am trying to establish the parts and accessories that I will need to build an emulator. My biggest question is can i use my android phone as a SNES controller on my Raspberry Pi. Since android basically runs on linux im sure its possible, but I just dont know anything about it.

Is there anything else that I need to set this up?

Thanks in advance!

edtrud,
Take a look at Hackaday site, http://hackaday.com/
you might find some food for thought there.
Do a search for SNES.
I found this on my first search: http://hackaday.com/2013/01/04/turning- ... o-an-snes/
Best of luck to you in your endeavors!

Hi pal,

You should start with a retropie image or the retropie setup script. Retropie is an image (and an install script) that can simplify the process of installing many emulators and utilities.

For the control of the emulators from your smartphone, most of the remotes applications are based on x, but what you want is to have the android phone as an hid device connected to your pi.

The only app i know is : https://code.google.com/p/androhid/

But i don't think it will be very userfriendly to play with.

Just for info, in retropie, you have a snes controller gpio driver, allowing you to wire your snes controllers directly to GPIO (rpi pins) and to play with original controllers !
