Compiling SDL2 for use in other Programs

Mon Jul 07, 2014 7:49 am

I have compiled SDL2 (2.0.1 & 2.0.3) for use in Stella 4.0 (which can now use OpenGLES) during configure it does indicate Open GLES and OpenGLES2 are present. However, on running the Test Programs I notice testgles and testgles2 don't run as there is a 'Couldn't create window: GLX is unsupported' error. On compiling Stella and setting graphics to OpenGLES or OpenGLES2 although the GUI works (which makes sense as the Test 'Draw' program works fine), on starting a ROM, again, perhaps a related error? 'No Renderer Available' is present. Does it require 'Linking' of SDL2 to render correctly for OpenGLES/GLES2?

Thanks

Hi welshy

There is an excellent thread detailing how to work with sdl2 here.

I had problems initially with SDL2 and this thread really helped me.

Can't wait to see this version of Stella! The thing that bugs me most about the current version is the screen tearing from lack of vsync (and probably because it is using software rendering to scale the screen to a higher resolution). Having a 60fps no tearing Stella on the Raspberry Pi would be nice, and the added TV effects would be icing on the cake.

Maybe the best bet would go to GLES2 natively instead of use SDL2.
